Marriott International, Inc. is an American multinational company that operates, franchises, and licenses lodging including hotel, residential, and timeshare properties. I was tasked with updating their group booking website. My design has since been updated again, but the essense of what we began is still there.

Problem

The old website was outdated and did not reflect the new and innovative way Marriott was approaching group booking. We need to be able to answer any questions a customer may have before booking a block of rooms. We also needed a way to integrate Meetings Imagined, Marriott's internal event planner team, into the new website.

Approach

We began interviewing previous customers on their experience with the current website, what their main task was, what worked well, and what didn't. We found that the highest priority was to be able to book a block of rooms easily, without having to go through a lot of hoops. They wanted it as easy as booking a single room. We decided to bring the search to the top and reflect the look of single room booking from the main website. Our second priority was to being forward value props. These included the Marriott Rewards program, the Meeting Services app, and Meetings Imagined.

Outcome

We threaded a story through the single page, using visual elements to draw the customer's eyes to the important elements throughout. As a result, we increased group booking overall by 23%. We increased group booking through the website by 62%, and reduced the amount of RFPs (Marriott's non self-service group booking process) by 45%.
